All aboard! Come along for a look at diesel trains running in the western United States! Diesel Trains Galore is a 33 minute long video that features numerous shots of all sorts of different diesel trains. You will see everything from modern freights and passenger trains to vintage diesels running in excursion service. This video is not narrated and there are no captions on any of the video clips.
Diesel Trains Galore starts off with footage of Union Pacific genset and GP locomotives running light and pulling local freights in California.
Diesel Trains Galore then heads to the Fillmore & Western in southern California to see F7A 100, Alco RS32 4009, and Alco S6 1059 pulling excursions.
From there Diesel Trains Galore moves north to the Niles Canyon Railway. You’ll see an excursion pulled by restored Southern Pacific NW2 1423 in the Tiger Stripe scheme. Southern Pacific GP9E 3194 in scarlet and gray will run light and then pull a string of preserved Southern Pacific passenger cars.
Next you’ll see some modern day BNSF freight action in Arizona and California, including footage on famed Cajon Pass!
Diesel Trains Galore then heads back to the Los Angeles area to catch some Metrolink commute trains.
Fans of the circus will appreciate a long Ringling Brothers train pulled by Union Pacific diesels!
Vintage Union Pacific E8A 942 and Southern Pacific U25B 3100 pull trains at the Orange Empire Railway Museum. This segment even includes views from the caboose as the train is moving!
On the central California coast we’ll see Amtrak heritage P42 156 pulling the Coast Starlight over Gaviota trestle. There’s more Amtrak footage including more heritage units and a few surprises!
Diesel Trains Galore will take you next to the Union Pacific mainline to see big diesels hauling freight.
Finally we’ll head to the San Diego area to watch Coaster trains hauling commuters to and from work.
