Description

A Day at Stockton captures the railroading action at the BNSF / Union Pacific crossing in Stockton, California.

Located in the heart of California’s Central Valley, the city of Stockton is a railfan’s paradise.  This is a railroading hot spot with trains coming through every few minutes during peak times.

Several major Union Pacific routes merge into a high-speed, double-track mainline running through the center of town.  The double-track main of BNSF’s Stockton Subdivision crosses the UP line, bringing even more rail traffic to the already busy area.

The freight trains are long and many of them use up every bit of the 60 mph speed limit on the Union Pacific main.  Others slow to a crawl as they head into Union Pacific’s East Yard or BNSF’s Mormon Yard.  This area sees quite a bit of passenger traffic, too, with trains from Amtrak California and the Altamont Commuter Express (ACE).

On March 31, 2008, TSG Multimedia’s cameras filmed every train that came through the area near the BNSF/UP crossing from late morning until late in the afternoon.

In addition to regular UP and BNSF freight trains, there are BNSF trackage-rights trains entering and leaving the UP, light engine movements, a UP local pulled by a pair of patched ex-SP and Cotton Belt GPs, as well as Amtrak California San Joaquin and Altamont Commuter Express (ACE) trains.

Each train is shown in its entirety, just as if you were there with us trackside.  It’s like a full day of railfanning, only without the waiting around between trains and sunburn!

A Day at Stockton also includes a bonus still photo library!

Join us for a look at this busy railroad hot spot as we spend a day at Stockton!
