A quintuple-header consisting of five working steam locomotives pulling a long string of passenger cars performs a photo run-by in Niles Canyon west of Sunol, California on June 13th, 2014. The locomotives in order are: Mason County Logging Co. 2-6-2T No. 7; Santa Cruz Portland Cement 0-4-0T No. 2; Quincy Railroad 2-6-2T No. 2; Robert Dollar 2-6-2T No. 3; and Clover Valley Lumber Co. 2-6-6-2T No. 4. This train was part of a special photo excursion that ran during the week-long Steamfest III event on the Niles Canyon Railway.
Unlike the other photo excursions during Steamfest III, the quintuple-header was a single train. All of that passenger space was needed, as this was by far the most popular of the week’s photo charters.

Steamfest III 2014 captures all the action of a very special event that took place between June 7th and 15th, 2014.
The Niles Canyon Railway and the Pacific Locomotive Association hosted Steamfest III. The largest Steamfest event yet, this one featured five working steam engines in California’s beautiful Niles Canyon! The locomotives performed spectacular double-headed, triple-headed, and even quintuple-headed photo run-bys! During the weekends the locomotives worked independently and in pairs hauling passengers through scenic Niles Canyon.
